Baseball Recap: Fairmont Comes Up Short

Fairmont extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 13-12 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Miamisburg Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 1-0 last Wednesday.

Tyler Mastro was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Mastro wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Skyler Slifer, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Miamisburg, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-10. Five seems to be a good number for they as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

On Miamisburg's side, the team relied heavily on Logan Walker, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most doubles Walker has posted since back in April.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fairmont will head out to square off against Archbishop Moeller at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Fighting Crusaders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Firebirds' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Miamisburg, they are taking a road trip to challenge Northmont at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
