Baseball Recap: North Central Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but North Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top against the Bloomfield Cardinals by a score of 9-6. The game was the first time the Thunderbirds have beaten the Cardinals on their field since May 27, 2019.

Hayden Schultz was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over 6.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Greydyn Walters was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-5. North Central is 2-1 when Walters posts two or more runs, but 0-7 otherwise. Caden Bays was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

North Central lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

North Central's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-8. As for Bloomfield, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

North Central will venture away from home to challenge South Vermillion at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bloomfield, they will welcome Loogootee at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
