Basketball Game Preview: Humphreys County Cowboys vs. Greenville Hornets

Humphreys County hasn't had much luck against Greenville recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cowboys will take on the Hornets at 7:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, Humphreys County came up short against Holmes County Central and fell 63-53.

Meanwhile, Greenville strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They were the clear victors by a 72-46 margin over Cleveland Central. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Hornets had established a 20-point advantage.

Humphreys County better keep an eye on Demarion Gibson. He was instrumental in Greenville's win, shooting 64% from the field to rack up 26 points in addition to five assists and four steals. The matchup was Gibson's third in a row with at least 16 points. Laderrius Hunter was another key player, as he made all 7 shots he took for 17 points and five boards.

Greenville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Greenville's record now sits at 3-0. As for Humphreys County, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Humphreys County suffered a grim 81-60 defeat to Greenville in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Hornets' Kolbie Williams, who went 7-for-12 from beyond the arc en route to 29 points. Now that the Cowboys know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
