Softball Recap: Galena Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Damonte Ranch

Galena faced Damonte Ranch in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Grizzlies fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 7-6. The Grizzlies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Ava Greene put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Greene wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ella Smith, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Emery Snyder was another, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

Galena has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-20-1 record this season. As for Damonte Ranch, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-15.

While Galena had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
