Softball Game Preview: Waubonsie Valley Warriors vs. Neuqua Valley Wildcats

The Waubonsie Valley Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Neuqua Valley Wildcats at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Waubonsie Valley turned things around against DeKalb on Wednesday. They skirted past the Barbs 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Warriors have posted since April 28th.

Sammy Wiertelak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Grace Riggs, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Lily Elsea, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Neuqua Valley made sure to put some runs up on the board against Metea Valley on Wednesday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Mustangs. The Wildcats not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 28th (when they won 29-4).

Waubonsie Valley's record now sits at 8-17. As for Neuqua Valley, their record is now 13-14.

Waubonsie Valley came up short against Neuqua Valley in their previous matchup two weeks ago, falling 8-4. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
