Basketball Game Preview: Ashland Hornets vs. Katahdin Cougars

Ashland hasn't had much luck against Katahdin recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Ashland Hornets are taking a road trip to take on the Katahdin Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Ashland beats Katahdin with 48 points on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Ashland had just enough and edged Van Buren out 48-45. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hornets.

Meanwhile, Katahdin entered their tilt with East Grand on Monday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They really took it to the Vikings for the full four quarters, racking up a 95-11 win. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 49-9.

Katahdin pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.0 points per game. As for Ashland, their win ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-7.

Ashland took a serious blow against Katahdin in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 92-42. Can Ashland avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
