Basketball Recap: Del Norte Drops Highest Score of Season Against South Park

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Del Norte). They claimed a resounding 59-29 win over the South Park Burros. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Tigers had established a 20 point advantage.

Leading Del Norte to victory were Tytus Atencio and Lashawn Trujillo. Atencio went 8-for-20 on his way to 19 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while Trujillo posted 12 points in addition to seven boards and four blocks. Del Norte is 2-1 when Trujillo posts three or more blocks, but 6-8 otherwise. Kingston Wilcox was another key player, going 5-for-7 to rack up 11 points.

Del Norte smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 7.4 offensive boards per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 13.4.

Del Norte has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.5 points over those games. As for South Park, they dropped their record down to 2-16 with the loss, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Del Norte will host Hoehne at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hoehne knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Del Norte likes a good challenge. As for South Park, they will challenge Pikes Peak Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
