At the plate, Downingtown East saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Georgia Mahon, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Mahon has snagged this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Great Valley). They put the hurt on Kennett with a sharp 14-7 victory on Thursday. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Blue Demons recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Great Valley got a massive performance out of Mia Carr, who fired off two home runs and three runs while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Anna Billman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Great Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 11.6.
Great Valley's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Downingtown East, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.
Great Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Downingtown East has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Great Valley, though, as they've been averaging 9.6 hits. Given Downingtown East's sizable advantage in that area, the Patriots will need to find a way to close that gap.
Downingtown East took their win against Great Valley in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-3 score. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
