Softball Recap: Hammond Bishop Noll Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Hammond Bishop Noll had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Hammond Central Wolves a 19-0 shutout. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Madelynn (Maddie) Queen and Molly Whelan made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Queen tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Whelan pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. At the plate, Queen scored two runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Whelan got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI and two runs.

In other batting news, Hammond Bishop Noll got a massive performance out of Aiyanna (Yani) Espinosa, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenzie Dillahunty, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with four RBI, one run, and one double.
