Baseball Game Preview: Medomak Valley Panthers vs. Leavitt Hornets

Medomak Valley and Leavitt are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Panthers will be playing at home against the Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Medomak Valley's pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so Leavitt's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Medomak Valley came out on top against Camden Hills on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Panthers took their contest against the Windjammers 7-2.

Porter Gahagan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up 15 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Josh Blake Jr was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Walker Simmons, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Leavitt lost 11-5 to Lincoln Academy on Tuesday. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Morgan Folsom was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. Folsom was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Folsom wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Randan Hutchinson, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Medomak Valley's victory bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Leavitt, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.

Medomak Valley beat Leavitt 4-1 in their previous matchup on May 12th. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
