Baseball Game Preview: Orland Trojans vs. Grace Davis Spartans

The Orland Trojans will square off against the Grace Davis Spartans at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday. Orland is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.

Orland saw some tournament action on Wednesday. They fell just short of Modesto by a score of 4-3.

Rory Moreci spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Orland is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 6-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Orland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Schager, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Grace Davis unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They came up short against Ceres, falling 11-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Spartans have suffered since February 19th.

Orland now has a losing record of 10-11. As for Grace Davis, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Orland has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Grace Davis struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
