Basketball Game Preview: Waterville Panthers vs. Winthrop Ramblers

The Waterville Panthers will take on the Winthrop Ramblers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Waterville has struggled recently with 20 losses in a row, while Winthrop will arrive with three straight wins.

On Monday, Waterville ended up a good deal behind Maine Central Institute and lost 37-21.

Meanwhile, Winthrop was fully in charge on Tuesday, breezing past Old Orchard Beach 50-22. The Ramblers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 21 points or more this season.

Winthrop is also on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Waterville, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-18.

Waterville suffered a grim 69-45 defeat to Winthrop in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Can Waterville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
