Basketball Recap: Jacaleb Johnson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Silsbee over Wheatley

Silsbee and Wheatley squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Silsbee had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Wheatley Wildcats by a score of 78-75. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (70), the Tigers still had to take the loss.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jacaleb Johnson, who went 8-for-19 en route to 21 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Jones, who went 9-for-19 on his way to 21 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Silsbee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Silsbee's defeat dropped their record down to 21-14. As for Wheatley, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-7 record this season.

Silsbee does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Wheatley has already played their next contest (against Connally), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
