Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon Comes Up Short

Mt. Vernon was the 10-1 winner over Civic Memorial when they last played one another back in March of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Mt. Vernon Rams came up short against the Civic Memorial Eagles on Wednesday, falling 11-5. Rams fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Eagles since on Wednesday.

Mt. Vernon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Diedrich Smith, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. What's more, Smith posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another was Ty Pierce, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Mt. Vernon's loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Civic Memorial, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0.

Coming up, Mt. Vernon will take on Moline at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Civic Memorial, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Pleasant Plains at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday.
