Winning always takes teamwork, but on Tuesday Gavin Short stepped things up a notch to give Maize the 'W'. Short didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over six innings pitched. The effort also marked the most strikeouts (five) he has had since back in May of 2025.

Short's strong effort led Maize over Derby and he'll get a chance to do so again: the teams have a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
