Basketball Recap: Lucas Garcia's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sargent over Center

After flying high against La Veta last Thursday, Sargent came back down to earth. The Sargent Farmers took a 46-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Center Vikings. The Farmers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Sargent's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lucas Garcia, who posted ten points and eight rebounds. Garcia is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Fernando Venzor was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

Sargent's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Center, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sargent will welcome Monte Vista at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Center, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Crested Butte at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
