Preview: McCormick Chiefs vs. Dixie Hornets
McCormick is 9-1 against Dixie since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The McCormick Chiefs will be playing at home against the Dixie Hornets at 6:00 p.m. McCormick is out to stop a five-game streak of losses at home.
Last Wednesday, McCormick lost to Silver Bluff at home by a decisive 69-52 margin. While losing is never fun, McCormick can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 215th, while Silver Bluff is ranked 53rd).
Meanwhile, Dixie can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent match on Tuesday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 36-5 win over Thornwell. That looming 36-5 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Dixie yet this season.
Dixie can attribute much of their success to Kerri O'Shields, who scored nine points along with five steals, and Jaylia Turner, who scored 11 points along with seven steals. O'Shields has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Georgia Wojtkowski, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
McCormick has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Dixie, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-8.
McCormick strolled past Dixie in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a score of 41-25. Will McCormick repeat their success, or does Dixie have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
