The University City Centurions will venture away from home to challenge the El Camino Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Last Thursday, University City came up short against Tri-City Christian and fell 7-4. The Centurions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Alyssa Castillo made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Samantha Weathers also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for El Camino, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over Fallbrook on Friday. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.
Makayla Boone and Kailey Stanford were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Boone pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Stanford struck out six batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Boone has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Boone went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base, while Stanford scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs Boone has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, El Camino got a massive performance out of Kaylani Feliciano-Taele, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Feliciano-Taele has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Mendoza, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one double.
El Camino hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fallbrook struck out ten times.
University City's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8-1. As for El Camino, they moved to 9-6 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
University City couldn't quite get it done against El Camino in their previous meeting back in March of 2022 as they fell 3-0. Can the Centurions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
