Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Union Local

Union Local won the last time they faced Barnesville and things went their way on Monday too. The Union Local Jets enjoyed a cozy 56-42 victory over the Barnesville Shamrocks. Given the Jets' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Shamrocks are ranked 429th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the defeat, Barnesville had strong showings from Aiva Leasure, who posted seven points along with six boards and four steals, and Madelynn Tyson, who had 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Tyson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mallory Kiser, who earned five points.

The win was the third in a row for Union Local, bringing their record for this year to 12-2. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.0 points per game. As for Barnesville, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

Union Local didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-19 victory against Buckeye Trail on the 15th. As for Barnesville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 57-51 win against Ridgewood on the 15th.
