Basketball Recap: Bayfield Takes a Loss

Bayfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Monte Vista Pirates 58-13. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 251st, while the Pirates are ranked 117th).

Renae Foutz was Bayfield's leading scorer, having posted 11 points. Grace Brown held things down on the boards with six rebounds.

Monte Vista's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Heysenny Beltran, who went 5-for-8 on her way to 11 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of SaSha Dupont, who went 5-for-9 to rack up 12 points and three steals.

Bayfield's loss dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Monte Vista, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

Looking ahead, Bayfield will take on Telluride at 12:30 p.m. on February 22nd. As for Monte Vista, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 50-23 defeat against Centauri on the 15th.
