Football Recap: Rockford East Comes Up Short

Rockford East fell victim to Hononegah and their airtight defense on Friday. They were beaten by the Indians 34-0. While losing is never fun, the E-Rabs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 435th, while the Indians are ranked 199th).

Drew Shockley had a dynamite game For Hononegah., rushing for 72 yards and one TD on only eight carries, while also throwing for 147 yards and a pair of touchdowns on perfect 5-for-5 passing. Shockley also put up two passing touchdowns, which were his first of the season. Tyler Banker was another key player, rushing for 43 yards and two scores.

Rockford East's loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Hononegah, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rockford East will venture away from home to challenge Harlem at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Huskies' defense has only allowed 10.7 points per game this season, so the E-Rabs' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Hononegah, they will head out on the road to square off against Boylan Catholic at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
