Softball Recap: Manzano Has No Trouble Against Del Norte

Manzano's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They put the hurt on the Del Norte Knights with a sharp 14-1 victory. Considering the Monarchs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Briana Largo spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits.

At the plate, Kiara Laweka and Shania Aragon did most of the damage at the plate: Laweka went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Aragon scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Robles Lopez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

The win snapped Manzano's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-10 record. As for Del Norte, they dropped their record down to 3-13 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Manzano will host Rio Grande at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Manzano's pitchers better be ready for this one: Rio Grande has averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season. As for Del Norte, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Bernalillo at 3:30 p.m.
