Baseball Recap: Sumner Has No Trouble Against Spoto

Sumner's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Spoto Spartans with a sharp 11-0 win. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Stingrays this season.

Isaiah Welch made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Sumner is 4-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-2 otherwise. Welch was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Ethan DeJesus was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Eric Farmer also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Sumner always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Sumner has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. Spoto's loss dropped their record down to 6-4.

Sumner wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 10-0 defeat against Alonso on the 8th. As for Spoto, they have also already played their next game, an 11-0 loss against Durant on the 11th.
