Basketball Game Preview: MacArthur Generals vs. Springfield Southeast Spartans

The MacArthur Generals will challenge the Springfield Southeast Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (MacArthur has eight straight victories, Springfield Southeast has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Saturday, MacArthur beat Rochester 48-38. Given the Generals' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while the Rockets are ranked 323rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

MacArthur got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Iyshonti Ayres out in front who posted 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zahnya Gibbs, who earned 13 points.

Meanwhile, Springfield Southeast lost to Glenwood on the road by a 52-37 margin on Saturday.

MacArthur pushed their record up to 21-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points over those games. As for Springfield Southeast, their loss dropped their record down to 14-13.
