Baseball Recap: Payson Extends Winning Streak to Three

Payson came out on top against Juab on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run third inning. The Lions walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Wasps. This was payback for the Lions, who suffered a 12-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Brigzen Houser made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cole Neves, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

The win was the third in a row for Payson, bringing their record up to 8-13. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Juab, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Payson will square off against Provo at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Juab, they will face off against Carbon at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
