Softball Game Preview: Mount Union Trojans vs. Mifflin County Huskies

The Mount Union Trojans are taking a road trip to take on the Mifflin County Huskies at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Thursday, Mount Union didn't have quite enough to beat Tussey Mountain and fell 3-2. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sayde Wise was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mount Union saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ke' Andra Wible, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That double was Wible's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Mifflin County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cedar Cliff.

Mount Union's record now sits at 5-10. As for Mifflin County, their record is now 5-9-1.

Mount Union's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. The Trojans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Mifflin County, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Mount Union continue to outrun the ball?

Mount Union came up short against Mifflin County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 5-2. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
