4A Metro Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances from Friday's football action (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Ian Mckinnon Has Career-Day on Friday

Starting off the list is Southeast Guilford's Ian Mckinnon, who we judged to be the best player in the league this week. On Friday Mckinnon made 11 total tackles, good enough to also set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process. He also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Southeast Guilford is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-3 otherwise.

The win was the third in a row for Southeast Guilford, bringing their record for this year to 5-3. It'll be Northside v. Southside when they and Northwest Guilford meet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

A Season-Best Performance from Faizon Brandon Leads Grimsley over Southwest Guilford

Faizon Brandon produced his most outstanding game to date while leading Grimsley to the win on Friday. Brandon rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 136 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. The effort marked the most rushing yards he has had since back in August of 2023. His longest rush was for an incredible 86 yards.

Southwest Guilford's probably not too fond of Brandon given he always seems to get the better of them. Back in October of 2023 (the last time Brandon saw the Cowboys), he threw for 204 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 passes, and also rushed for 40 yards.

Grimsley Gets a Boost from Summers in 71-0 Win

Grimsley picked up their eighth consecutive win on Friday thanks in part to Mitchell Summers. Southwest Guilford had no answer to Summers as he rushed for 86 yards and four touchdowns on only eight carries. Summers is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last 11 games he's played dating back to last season.

Summers must have Southwest Guilford's number; he was a force to be reckoned with the last time he faced them too. Summers rushed for 183 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries the last time he and the Cowboys duked it out back in October of 2023.

While Simeon Libby delivered a dominant performance on Friday, a win just wasn't in the cards for Western Guilford. Southeast Guilford had no answer to Libby as he picked up three sacks and made 11 total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Western Guilford is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4. Libby and Western Guilford will square off against Northern Guilford at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Dwight Hall Crosses Big Stat Threshold
