Baseball Recap: Lafayette Comes Up Short

Lafayette suffered their closest defeat since April 16, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Corinth Warriors by a score of 4-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-2 last Monday.

Lafayette got a good showing from Brett Williams, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Williams has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Lafayette saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Collin Waldrip, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

This is the second loss in a row for Lafayette and nudges their season record down to 6-3. As for Corinth, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-4.

Lafayette (ranked 33rd) will meet Center Hill (ranked 105th) at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lafayette is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season. Meanwhile, Corinth will face off against Sparkman at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday up 106 places (43 vs. 149).
