Football Game Preview: Murrah Mustangs vs. Lanier Bulldogs

Murrah is a perfect 3-0 against Lanier since August of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mustangs will face off against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Murrah is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Provine on Friday. The Mustangs enjoyed a cozy 21-6 win over the Rams. The Mustangs' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Murrah can attribute much of their success to Courtavious Russell, who picked up 123 receiving yards and one TD.

Meanwhile, Lanier strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past Forest Hill 30-6. Considering the Bulldogs have won four games by more than 23 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Lanier found their leader in sophomore Knolyn Bailey, who rushed for 150 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.5 yards per carry. Bailey is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 110 every time he's taken the field this season.

Lanier's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Murrah, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Everything went Murrah's way against Lanier when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as Murrah made off with a 28-8 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
