Ben Davis extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 3-13. They lost 10-3 to the Decatur Central Hawks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Giants of the 3-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
Ben Davis saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was DJ Mitchell, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Decatur Central, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games.
On Decatur Central's side, Logan Markus made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Markus has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Decatur Central is undefeated when Markus posts two or more runs, but 7-10 otherwise.
In other pitching news, Casey Garica looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Braylon Brent was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Tepepa Juarez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Ben Davis wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 18-6 defeat against Plainfield on the 11th. As for Decatur Central, they have also already played their next game, a 17-1 win against Park Tudor on the 9th.
