Basketball Recap: Newton Falls Piles Up the Points Against Liberty

Newton Falls won the last time they faced Liberty and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Newton Falls Tigers simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Liberty Leopards 69-34. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 340th, while the Leopards are ranked 753rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Newton Falls' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Phil Davis led the charge by going 5 for 9 en route to 12 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Davis is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Landon McGregor, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 11 points along with seven boards and four steals.

Newton Falls is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.6 points per game. As for Liberty, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-13.
