Basketball Recap: Quitman County Hornets vs. Terrell County Greenwave
Quitman County had lost six straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped down to 2-15 to make it seven. They fell 87-77 to the Terrell County Greenwave. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Greenwave this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 60-45 back in December of 2025.
Despite the loss, Quitman County still got an impressive performance from Jaideon Peterson, who shot 70% from the field to rack up 35 points and five rebounds. That was a full 45.5% of the Hornets' points, marking the third time in a row Peterson has posted more than a third of the team's points. Tyquavion Shingles was another key player, dropping a double-double with 11 points and ten boards.
As for Terrell County, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-13. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Dominique Polite was a one-man wrecking crew as he had 39 points. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cordarel Small, who put up 14 points.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Quitman County will take on Randolph-Clay at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Terrell County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pelham at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hornets have been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
