Baseball Recap: Santa Fe South Wins Going Away Against Wellston

Santa Fe South hadn't done well against Wellston recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Saints were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Tigers. For the Saints, this counts as revenge for the 16-11 win the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

The team relied heavily on Drew Cabrera, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Santa Fe South's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-15 when he doesn't). Albert Gallegos also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Santa Fe South pushed their record up to 8-15 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Wellston, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Santa Fe South will head out to face off against Southeast at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Wellston, they will venture away from home to square off against Perkins-Tryon at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Demons will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight.
