Basketball Recap: Lamar Skates Past Cesar E. Chavez with Ease

Lamar won the last time they faced Cesar E. Chavez and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Lamar Texans breezed by the Cesar E. Chavez Lobos to the tune of 76-34. Given the Texans' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 351st, while the Lobos are ranked 914th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cesar E. Chavez's loss came despite strong showings from Grant Johnson and Samad Naylor-Walters. Johnson posted nine points and five boards, while Naylor-Walters put up 14 points. Jorge Sandoval also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Lamar's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-13. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Cesar E. Chavez, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.

Lamar wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 56-54 win against Heights on the 25th. As for Cesar E. Chavez, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-30 loss against Bellaire on the 24th.
