Baseball Recap: Elkhart Find Success

Elkhart's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Teague Lions 1-0. The Elks were shut out 11-0 the last time they took on the Lions, so the Elks were just returning the favor.

The result came thanks to Cole Horton's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Elkhart's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is undefeated (and 6-11 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Elkhart's win was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Johnny Franklin, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. Callyn Franklin also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Elkhart's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-11. As for Teague, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-6.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Elkhart is set to challenge their familiar foe Westwood at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Teague will face off against rival Groesbeck at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
