Softball Recap: Hayward Farmers vs. Piedmont Highlanders

Hayward extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 2-8 in the process. They came up short against the Piedmont Highlanders, falling 15-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Highlanders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-0 back in March.

As for Piedmont, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.

For Piedmont's part, Miya Fujimoto made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Fujimoto has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Piedmont got a massive performance out of Angelina Wu, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Wu a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Edie Elmquist, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Coming up, Hayward will take on Tennyson at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Piedmont, they will square off against Salesian College Preparatory at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
