Softball Recap: Reardan Screaming Eagles vs. Newport Grizzlies
Reardan extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 5-9 in the process. They lost 13-0 to the Newport Grizzlies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Grizzlies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 on Tuesday.
As for Newport, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 10-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by nine runs or more this season.
For Newport's part, Lili Hall was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Hall has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Bella Boyd was incredible, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Genica Kreider, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
While Reardan had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
