Baseball Recap: Hillsboro Beats Antioch for Their Fourth Straight Win

Hillsboro had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Antioch on Tuesday. The Burros were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Bears. Considering the Burros have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Michael Gooch, Jr made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gooch, Jr was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5. Hillsboro is undefeated when Gooch, Jr posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

In other pitching news, John Clemmons looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Efrain Martinez III (TRE), who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Ben Clay, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Hillsboro, bringing their record up to 11-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Antioch, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Hillsboro will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bears: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
