Baseball Recap: Wayland-Cohocton's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Wayland-Cohocton lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Wellsville, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's contest. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Lions on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Tony Schirmer looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Wayland-Cohocton is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 2-3 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Dolan Cotter was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Charlie Mulford, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Wayland-Cohocton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Wayland-Cohocton's win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Wellsville, they dropped their record down to 6-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Wayland-Cohocton has already played their next match, a 5-2 victory against Dansville on the 1st. As for Wellsville, they will face off against Attica at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
