Softball Recap: Scott Takes a Loss

After flying high against Shady Spring on Saturday, Scott came back down to earth. The Skyhawks fell just short of the Winfield Generals by a score of 3-1 on Saturday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Kambri Beard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Scott saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa Shultz, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Scott's defeat dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Winfield, their victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-3.

Coming up, Scott will host George Washington at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Skyhawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Winfield, they will venture away from home to challenge Cabell Midland at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Generals 1.3, the Knights 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
