Basketball Game Preview: Thornton Trojans vs. Skyview Wolverines

Thornton hasn't had much luck against Skyview recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Thornton Trojans will head out to challenge the Skyview Wolverines at 7:00 p.m.

Thornton is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They took a 39-23 bruising from Aurora Central.

Meanwhile, Skyview waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Olympians 65-29. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while the Olympians are ranked 266th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Thornton better keep an eye on Veronica Munoz. She was instrumental in Skyview's win, going 5-for-8 en route to 13 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. That's the most boards Munoz has posted since back in December of 2024. Nevaeh Lucero was another key player, going 5-for-12 on her way to 12 points and four steals.

Skyview's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-4. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 36.4% in those games and 24.1% outside of them. As for Thornton, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-15.

Thornton was taken down by Skyview 66-23 when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Skyview's Leila Estrada, who went 6-for-8 to rack up 19 points.
