Basketball Recap: Elizabeth Beto Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Westmont

Westmont typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Westmont Sentinels, sneaking past 47-44. Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family has seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw Westmont, too.

Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elizabeth Beto, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. What's more, Beto also racked up three blocks, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Maya Krutul was another key player, going 9 for 22 on her way to 19 points along with eight rebounds and five steals.

When it comes to explaining why Westmont lost, don't look at Payeton Pickens. Despite the final result, she posted 18 points. Pickens is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Danielle Hoover, who scored eight points and three steals.

Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family's win bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Westmont, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-10.

Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family will head out on the road to take on Families of Faith Christian Academy at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Westmont does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
