Baseball Game Preview: Rainier Mountaineers vs. Rochester Warriors

The Rainier Mountaineers will face off against the Rochester Warriors at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Rainier knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Rochester likes a good challenge.

On Wednesday, Rainier made easy work of Wahkiakum and carried off a 14-2 victory.

Peyton Sheaffer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Sheaffer was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Rainier is 2-1 when Sheaffer posts three or more RBI, but 6-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Kaden Goodman was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Yazama Gurnsey, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Rainier always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .533 or higher in six consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Rochester came up short against Montesano on Tuesday, falling 9-1. The Warriors have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Rainier is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Rochester, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
