Softball Game Preview: Laton Mustangs vs. Alpaugh Buffalos

The Laton Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Alpaugh Buffalos at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, Laton put up the most runs they have all season on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Tranquillity with a sharp 40-21 victory. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won nine in a row.

Laton got a massive performance out of Jaylene Zazueta, who got on base in seven of her eight plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Zazueta a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Peralez, who got on base in all eight of her plate appearances with five runs and three RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Alpaugh, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in March. Everything went their way against Wonderful College Prep Academy two weeks ago as they made off with a 15-8 victory. Considering the Buffalos have won four games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Alpaugh let Kylie Escobar and Ashley Galindo run wild. Escobar went 2-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs, while Galindo got on base in four of her six plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Escobar has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jazmin Juarez, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Laton's record now sits at 5-10-1. As for Alpaugh, their record is now 4-6.

Laton suffered a grim 30-20 defeat to Alpaugh in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
