Volleyball Recap: Melrose Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Melrose waltzed into their match on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Everything went their way against the Gateway Christian Warriors as they made off with a 3-0 victory. For the Buffaloes, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 win the Warriors walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2024.

Melrose's got stronger as the match went on, holding Gateway Christian to fewer and fewer points set over set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-21, 25-13.

Melrose was led to victory by Shylynn Downey and Zona Hollaway. Downey had 21 digs, while Hollaway had 12 digs. Those 12 digs gave Hollaway a new career-high.

Melrose's victory bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Gateway Christian, their defeat ended a four-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-4.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Melrose is set to square off against their familiar foe Floyd at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Gateway Christian will face off against rival Lake Arthur at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
