Basketball Recap: Statesville Greyhounds vs. North Lincoln Knights
Statesville lost against North Lincoln back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Statesville Greyhounds took a blow against the North Lincoln Knights, falling 78-44. The Greyhounds were down 68-38 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
When it comes to explaining why Statesville lost, don't look at Iyona Reid. Despite the final result, she posted 11 points. Another player making a difference was Ava Waugh, who scored nine points.
North Lincoln got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ally Smith out in front who went 9 of 16 on her way to 21 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Smith is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed five or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn Black, who went 6 for 10 on her way to 23 points and eight rebounds.
Statesville now has a losing record at 3-4. As for North Lincoln, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.
Statesville will look to defend their home court on Friday against Mooresville at 4:00 p.m. As for North Lincoln, they will welcome North Gaston at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Lincoln is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.3 points per game this season.
