Suggested Video

Deep Creek hasn't had much luck against Western Branch recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Hornets will take on the Bruins at 5:45 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Deep Creek 3.9, Western Branch 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Deep Creek will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Great Bridge, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Hornets walked away with a 4-1 win over the Wildcats on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hornets.

Lilly B was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run.

In other pitching news, Larah Fray looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Rayna Klar and Bailey Cockrell did most of the damage at the plate: Klar went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Cockrell got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits Klar has posted since back in April.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Western Branch). They put the hurt on Oscar Smith with a sharp 25-2 victory on Monday. Considering the Bruins have won 12 matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Ava Giacometti tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Western Branch got a massive performance out of Marissa Bernheimer, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Kaileigh Taylor was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Western Branch kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive contests.

Western Branch is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Deep Creek, their record is now 13-6.

Both Deep Creek and Western Branch just can't seem to miss. The Hornets have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Western Branch struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Deep Creek couldn't quite get it done against Western Branch in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 13-9. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
