Basketball Recap: St. Francis Knights vs. Langston Hughes Panthers

The St. Francis Knights pushed their score all the way to 57 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They received a tough blow as they fell 76-57 to Langston Hughes. While losing is never fun, St. Francis can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while the Panthers are ranked 20th).

Several Knights players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Greg Howard, who scored 17 points. Deniz Ozbek was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.

St. Francis struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Langston Hughes pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.

Langston Hughes' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brentis Schaeffer, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Catholic, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds.

St. Francis' loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-10. As for Langston Hughes, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-6.

St. Francis does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Langston Hughes will be playing at home against the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Alexander will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
