Preview: Chardon Hilltoppers vs. Mentor Cardinals
The Chardon Hilltoppers will head out on the road to challenge the Mentor Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Chardon didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Beachwood, but they still walked away with a 88-84 win. The victory was just what Chardon needed coming off of a 76-56 defeat in their prior matchup.
Meanwhile, Mentor entered their tilt with Lake with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Mentor strolled past Lake with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 91-76. Given Mentor's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while Lake is ranked 350th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ian Ioppolo continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a double-double on 24 points and nine rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Biddell, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Chardon's victory bumped their record up to 7-15. As for Mentor, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.
