Football Recap: East Lyme Piles Up the Points Against Griswold/Wheeler

The East Lyme Vikings were fully in charge on Friday, breezing past the Griswold/Wheeler Wolverines 42-7. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won three contests by 30 points or more so far this season.

Jacob Garro had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 103 yards and one TD on only 12 carries, and also threw for 151 yards and three touchdowns. Those 151 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Logan Baird was another key player, rushing for 110 yards and a pair of scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: East Lyme was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 254 rushing yards. They are 3-1 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

East Lyme didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Anthony Diloreto.

East Lyme pushed their record up to 5-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.7 points over those games. As for Griswold/Wheeler, they moved to 4-2 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After each having a week off, East Lyme and Waterford will shake off the rust and duke it out at 10:00 a.m. on the 27th. As for Griswold/Wheeler, they will face off against Plainfield at 10:00 a.m. on the 27th.
